Open Hernia Surgery

In an open hernia repair, an incision, or cut, is made in the groin area. The surgeon then pushes the hernia into the abdomen and reinforces the abdominal wall with stitches or plastic mesh. Most patients are able to go home a few hours after surgery and feel well within a few days. Vigorous activity and exercise are limited for four to six weeks after surgery.
